On January 9, Yangju City attended the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Rail Network Construction Plan National Assembly Forum" held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, where the city presented concrete implementation measures to improve transportation welfare in Yangju New Town and requested active financial support from the central government and Gyeonggi Province.

The forum, hosted by Gyeonggi Province, was attended by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon, local members of the National Assembly, municipal officials, and rail experts, and was held under the theme "Our Local Urban Rail, The Beginning Starts Now!"

Representing Yangju City as a panelist, Kim Jihyun, Director of Transportation, explained the significance of the Deokjeong-Okjeong Line.

The Deokjeong-Okjeong Line is a route that connects Deokjeong Station, which serves Subway Line 1 and the GTX-C line, with Okjeong Station (Station 201) on the Okjeong-Pocheon extension of Subway Line 7. It is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the northern Gyeonggi rail network.

Yangju City is currently conducting a basic rail plan study to secure feasibility and review specific funding measures. In addition, the city plans to secure a supplementary budget to proactively respond to the preliminary feasibility study and to advance discussions on GTX-C accessibility for residents of Yangju and Pocheon. Furthermore, the city proposed expanding support from the national government and Gyeonggi Province, taking into account the municipality's challenging financial situation.

In particular, the city emphasized, "The Deokjeong-Okjeong Line is an essential project to improve citizens' quality of life, but the local government’s share of 160 billion won out of the total project cost of approximately 400 billion won is a significant burden for Yangju City’s finances," and requested, "A reasonable cost-sharing plan among Gyeonggi Province and neighboring municipalities must be established."

A Yangju City official stated, "This forum will serve as an important milestone in moving the Deokjeong-Okjeong Line into the implementation phase," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that citizens can enjoy convenient rail services by working closely with Gyeonggi Province and relevant agencies."

Meanwhile, the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Rail Network Construction Plan (2026-2035)" is a statutory 10-year plan to create and extend 12 lines across Gyeonggi Province, including the Deokjeong-Okjeong Line in Yangju City, and is expected to dramatically transform the city’s transportation landscape in the future.
