Superintendent Jung Geunsik: "Discussions on Normalizing Public Education Must Proceed Swiftly"

"Resonating with the National Education Commission's 'Public Education Innovation Report' Proposing Absolute Evaluation for CSAT and School Records"

Jung Geunsik, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, recently expressed his views on the draft of the "Public Education Innovation Report" prepared by the National Education Commission, stating, "I deeply resonate with the direction for improving public education and welcome the beginning of a public discourse on normalizing public education."

On January 8, Superintendent Jung posted on social media, saying, "The innovations in the university admissions system and the high school credit system, as well as the measures to resolve high school ranking included in this report by the National Education Commission, closely align with the 'Proposal for a Future-Oriented University Admissions System' announced by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in December last year."

He added, "This report proposes converting both the College Scholastic Ability Test and school records to an absolute evaluation system, integrating early and regular admissions, abolishing the rule requiring 40% of regular admissions at 16 universities in Seoul, introducing essay-based and discussion-based evaluations, and converting autonomous private high schools, foreign language high schools, and international high schools into general high schools as ways to address high school ranking and educational inequality. Now is the time to swiftly begin discussions on improving the university admissions system going forward."

He continued, "We must establish a school record evaluation system that aligns with the purpose of the high school credit system and build a university admissions support system centered on students' growth records, so that students can grow through their high school education and prepare for future society. I look forward to the National Education Commission actively formulating policies so that public discussions on normalizing public education can proceed rapidly."

He also emphasized, "The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will not remain just a policy proposer, but will actively convey the vivid voices of educators and parents to the Ministry of Education and the National Education Commission."
