Preventing Fires at Underground EV Charging Facilities
Financial Support for Installation of Safety Equipment
Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyeon) announced on January 8 that it officially launched the "2026 Electric Vehicle Safety Environment Support Project" on January 6, aiming to prevent fires and strengthen initial response capabilities at electric vehicle charging facilities installed in underground parking lots of apartment complexes and other buildings.
This project targets apartment complexes and public facilities with three or more electric vehicle charging stations installed underground. It provides financial support for the installation of safety equipment to enable rapid detection and response in the event of a fire. Supported items include fire monitoring facilities and alarm systems such as thermal imaging cameras, asphyxiation fire blankets, and large dry powder fire extinguishers. Up to 3 million won per site (complex) will be provided, covering up to 70% of the installation (purchase) costs.
Guri City expects that this project will help create a safer residential and usage environment, allowing citizens to use electric vehicles with greater peace of mind amid the growing trend of electric vehicle adoption.
Applications for support will be accepted from February 2 to February 27, either by mail or in person at the Environment Division of Guri City Hall. Required documents include the application form, the resolution from the residents’ representative meeting, a layout of the installation site, site photographs, and an installation plan. After submission, the process will involve document review, evaluation, and on-site verification, with the final recipients to be selected by the end of May. The subsidy will be provided after the completion of facility installation.
Baek Kyunghyeon, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "As the adoption of electric vehicles expands, it is more important than ever to proactively address safety incidents," adding, "We will continue to expand the electric vehicle safety environment project so that citizens can use electric vehicles with confidence."
