Sancheong County Achieves Remarkable External Recognition Despite Major Disasters Last Year

Stable County Administration Amid Crisis
Commendations Earned Across Various Fields

Despite facing two major disasters last year-a large-scale wildfire and extreme torrential rains-Sancheong County drew attention by achieving remarkable results, earning institutional commendations across various fields.


According to Sancheong County on January 7, the county received a total of 27 institutional commendations from central government ministries, Gyeongnam Province, and public agencies last year. This achievement is credited to stable county administration, even in the face of unprecedented disasters such as the large wildfire in March and the record-breaking torrential rains in July.


Notably, the number of annual awards has continued to rise, from 14 in 2022, 18 in 2023, 25 in 2024, to 27 last year, further enhancing Sancheong County's external image. In addition, the county has delivered strong results in disaster response, administrative and fiscal management, tourism, agriculture, forestry, and other areas, demonstrating the realization of administration that residents can truly feel.

Among last year’s major achievements, the county was recognized in the disaster response sector for its field-oriented response system and prevention-focused administration, receiving awards such as the Encouragement Award for Disaster Prevention Project Implementation and the Excellence Award at the Wildfire Ground Suppression Competition.


After the disasters, the county was noted for firmly establishing an administrative policy that prioritizes the lives and safety of its residents. In the field of administrative and fiscal management, Sancheong County ranked first in the quantitative evaluation of the joint assessment of key municipal and county tasks, objectively confirming its administrative drive and policy execution capabilities.


Furthermore, the county maintained a stable administrative system even in times of crisis, earning high marks in the field of local tax administration, such as the Excellence Award in the Comprehensive Local Tax Evaluation, the Encouragement Award in the Comprehensive Survey of Public Property, and the Grand Prize for Performance in Local Non-Tax Revenue Management.


The county also achieved significant results in tourism and sports, leveraging its natural and cultural assets.


Donguibogam Village was selected as one of the 'Top 100 Korean Tourist Destinations for 2025-2026,' securing national tourism competitiveness. Sancheong County was also the only local government in the province chosen as a Regional Tourism Growth Municipality, strengthening its foundation for stay-type tourism.


Additionally, the county’s efforts were recognized with awards such as the Grand Prize at the 5th Gyeongnam Province Lifelong Learning Awards, the Excellence Award at the 21st Korea Local Autonomy Management Competition, and the Excellence Award in the 2025 Public Sewage Management Evaluation.


Recently, Sancheong County was selected by the Korea Forest Service as the lead institution for the 2026 Green Fund Forest Leisure Sports Policy Project, laying the groundwork to actively promote forest leisure sports events such as mountain marathons and mountain biking, and accelerating the development of the sports sector as a future growth engine.


Furthermore, by successfully co-hosting the 66th Gyeongnam Province Sports Festival in 2027, the county has established a cooperative system for the stable hosting of large-scale sporting events, further advancing its status as a sports and tourism city linked to the revitalization of local tourism, accommodation, and commercial sectors.


A Sancheong County official stated, "We were able to achieve these meaningful results because all residents united to overcome the crisis posed by the large wildfire and extreme torrential rains," adding, "We will continue to pursue systematic policies to bring about changes that residents can experience in their daily lives."
