Lee Seungro, Mayor of Seongbuk District in Seoul, has been appointed as a Special Advisor on Local Autonomy to Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Mayor Lee, who is serving his second term as the head of Seongbuk District, is recognized for expanding the role of local government through resident participation and field-oriented administration. With this appointment, he will serve as an advisor to ensure that local government issues are reflected in national politics and policy decisions.

Mayor Lee stated, "Local autonomy is where democracy is first put into practice," and added, "Based on the experience I have accumulated while running a local government, I will do my utmost to accurately convey the realities and challenges of local autonomy to national politics."

He continued, "For the state policy tasks of the Lee Jaemyung administration to yield tangible results in local communities, close communication between the central and local governments is more important than ever." He further emphasized, "From the perspective of a basic local government leader, I will deliver voices from the field and work to ensure that decentralization and resident-centered administration are reflected in party policies."

As a special advisor, Mayor Lee will provide policy advice based on his local government experience, strengthen policy communication between the party headquarters and local governments, and convey issues related to local autonomy.

He is credited with strengthening the role of local governments as policy actors through initiatives such as expanding participatory budgeting, enhancing local autonomy, and designing field-oriented policies during his seventh and eighth terms as Mayor of Seongbuk District.
