Damyang County in Jeollanam-do has launched the '2026 County Residents Dialogue Visiting Villages' initiative to share the direction of county administration for the new Byeong-o Year with residents and to hear firsthand voices from the field.
According to Damyang County on January 7, this dialogue was organized to directly explain the county’s key policies and projects to residents and to actively incorporate feedback gathered on-site into county administration. Over the next two months, the county plans to sequentially visit all 325 villages across its 12 towns and townships.
This year, particular emphasis will be placed on providing residents with detailed updates on how suggestions received last year have been addressed and the current status of their implementation. On the first day, January 7, County Governor Jeong Cheolwon visited the community centers in Gaeksa-ri, Damju-ri, and Cheonbyeon-ri in Damyang-eup, opening the door for communication.
At each site, relevant officials will first explain the progress made on last year’s suggestions, then present the county’s main policy initiatives for this year, and finally listen to new suggestions from residents.
Since shifting from town-level events to village-specific visits last year, the county has received a total of 1,857 suggestions. The main topics included improvements to rural infrastructure such as widening and paving farm roads and access roads, maintenance of irrigation and drainage channels, as well as everyday civil complaints like disease control, inconvenience in using senior centers, and installation of CCTV cameras and streetlights.
The county will immediately address issues that can be resolved right away by coordinating with relevant departments, while tasks that require mid- to long-term review will be monitored quarterly and managed continuously until completion.
A Damyang County official stated, "Visiting villages directly and listening to residents’ opinions is at the heart of field administration," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that residents’ valuable feedback is fully reflected in county governance."
