The selected markets will receive up to 1 billion KRW in funding over two years, including both national and local government budgets. Comprehensive initiatives will be implemented, such as developing market tour courses linked to local features, operating experiential programs to foster tourism content, developing signature products using local specialties, and supporting the promotion and marketing of completed products to pioneer sales channels. These efforts are expected to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy.

This year, 127 markets nationwide applied for the Culture and Tourism-Oriented Market Development Project, with 45 selected, resulting in a competition rate of 2.8 to 1.

Chilgok Market, the only public market in Buk-gu, Daegu, was established in April 1966 and currently operates 48 stores. Chilgok Market was previously selected for the Alley-Type Market Support Project in 2016 and, led by its merchants' association, continues to grow as a representative lifestyle-oriented traditional market in the region.

Kim Seungsoo stated, "Chilgok Market is adjacent to Palgeo Stream and Chilgok Hyanggyo, and is highly accessible thanks to the nearby Palgeo Stream and Dongcheon subway stations. The market also boasts a variety of unique foods such as barley rice cakes, sesame oil, jokbal (braised pig's trotters), and whole fried chicken, making it an ideal candidate to become a cultural and tourism landmark."

He added, "We will develop Chilgok Market not just as a simple commercial space, but as a vibrant hub that connects cultural and tourism resources with the daily lives of the local community. As an administrative expert, I will continue to do my utmost to make the Gangbuk and Chilgok areas of Buk-gu, Daegu, a top-tier city where anyone would want to live, based on my experience and commitment to action."
