Strengthening Partnership with Inshorts
Extending Content Lifespan and Expanding Theatrical Offerings
Classic films that were once difficult to screen in theaters due to blurry image quality are being revived in 4K ultra-high definition through the power of AI.
On January 7, Megabox announced that it will strengthen its partnership with AI video solutions company Inshorts to convert various classic content to 4K, optimized for theatrical screenings. The two companies have already restored works such as the animated film "Leafie, A Hen into the Wild" and early short films by directors Bong Joon-ho and Yeon Sang-ho last year.
This collaboration goes beyond simple image enhancement. It is a strategic move to extend the lifespan of intellectual property (IP) that was at risk of being forgotten due to deteriorating quality, and to secure a unique lineup exclusive to theaters. Director Yeon Sang-ho highlighted the significance of this technological advancement, saying that "the experience of revisiting past works in today's environment is meaningful in itself" and drew attention to the new possibilities opened up by technology.
Kim Joohong, Head of Content Planning at Megabox, emphasized, "This is not just about adopting new technology. By integrating AI from the planning stage, we will deliver verified masterpieces to audiences at the highest possible quality."
