Mayor Lee Suhee of Gangdong: "We Will Build a City Everyone Wants to Live in Together with Residents"

Presenting Gangdong's Future Vision at the New Year's Gathering

Lee Suhee, Mayor of Gangdong District in Seoul, stated, "I will work together with the residents to make Gangdong a city where everyone wants to live." Mayor Lee made these remarks during her New Year's address, which began by sharing the story of a young resident in his 30s living in Gangdong, at the "2026 New Year's Gathering" held at the Grand Theater of Gangdong Arts Center on January 6.

The event was attended by approximately 1,500 people, including community representatives and figures from various sectors who actively participate in district affairs. Mayor Lee presented her vision for the future of Gangdong, declaring, "I will work with the residents to make Gangdong a city where everyone, from children to seniors, is satisfied and wants to live."


The event began with a pre-ceremony performance by the popera group "Chambit Art Music," followed by the Gangdong District Citizen Awards, the mayor's New Year's address, a congratulatory video message from Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon, and New Year's greetings from key guests. A New Year's video was also screened under the theme, "Gangdong, where the dreams and wishes of 500,000 residents come true in everyday life."


At the Gangdong District Citizen Awards, individuals and organizations who contributed to the development of the local community in six categories, including social development and volunteer work, were recognized. KDW Wedding received the group award for social development and volunteer work, while Kim Dong-o received the individual award in the same category. For the environment category, Iljasanhoe Forest Love Volunteer Group was awarded; for filial piety and good deeds, Seo Gui-im; for culture and sports, Kim Jong-su; for economic development, Hwang Hee-yeon; and for education, Cheongsong Educational and Cultural Promotion Association received the award.


The district plans to hold a series of district briefings from January 13 to February 7 to share the direction of district administration for the new year and communicate with residents.
