As allegations of workplace harassment continue to emerge in Jangseong County, Jeonnam, the public officials' union has launched a comprehensive investigation.

On January 6, the Jangseong County branch of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korean Government Employees' Union announced that it would conduct a full survey on workplace harassment among all union members.

Previously, the Jangseong County branch of the union began a comprehensive investigation of all members after a series of power abuse controversies involving senior officials in certain departments of the main office and the Administrative Welfare Center since November of last year.

To maintain confidentiality, only the branch chief will receive reports of incidents via email. The union plans to collect cases until January 16 and develop countermeasures at the union level. It has been reported that recent cases of workplace harassment include sexual misconduct such as forced molestation.

Two senior officials who have been identified as perpetrators of workplace harassment have reportedly been excluded from their duties, including being placed on standby.

Jangseong County has determined the matter to be serious and is conducting its own audit, separate from the union’s comprehensive investigation.
