East Coast and Southern Region National Wildfire Prevention Centers Launched: "Regional Wildfire Response"

The Korea Forest Service announced on January 6 that it has officially launched the 'East Coast National Wildfire Prevention Center' and the 'Southern Region National Wildfire Prevention Center' as formal organizations.

The East Coast Center is responsible for wildfire response in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions, while the Southern Region Center covers the areas of South Gyeongsang, Busan, and Ulsan. These two centers were newly established to strengthen regional wildfire response capabilities and to enhance the speed and expertise of on-site response when wildfires occur.

The Korea Forest Service will ensure that each center can enhance its wildfire response expertise through joint wildfire suppression drills and specialized training for wildfire suppression personnel during normal times.

In particular, when wildfires break out, the centers will serve as hubs for the rapid coordination and support of personnel, equipment, and information, with a focus on initial response.

Kim Inho, Commissioner of the Korea Forest Service, stated, "The launch of the National Wildfire Prevention Centers will serve as an opportunity to advance the wildfire response system to be more field-oriented. We will establish a thorough wildfire response system to protect the lives and safety of the people and to safeguard forest resources."
