Dongducheon City to Fully Fund Replacement of Outdated CCTV in Daycare Centers
for a "Safe Childcare" Environment
On January 6, Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will launch the "2026 Support Project for Replacing Outdated CCTV in Local Daycare Centers" to enhance the safety of infants and young children and improve the childcare environment. This initiative aims to upgrade all outdated CCTV systems to the latest high-definition models, thereby strengthening the safety management system at childcare facilities.
With child abuse incidents at daycare centers continuing to occur, CCTV has proven effective not only in preventing abuse but also in enabling early detection and supporting police investigations when incidents arise.
Based on a survey of daycare center needs, Dongducheon City plans to fully cover (100%) the costs of replacing outdated CCTV systems over a two-year period, providing up to 2 million won per daycare center. This year, the city has allocated a total budget of 40 million won, funded entirely by the city, to prioritize the replacement at 20 daycare centers with the most outdated systems.
This support for replacing outdated CCTV is expected to ease the financial burden on daycare centers struggling with operational challenges such as declining enrollment, while also contributing to the creation of a safer childcare environment.
Park Hyungdeok, Mayor of Dongducheon City, stated, "I hope that the daycare center CCTV replacement support project will not only help prevent child abuse but also provide a practical benefit in creating a childcare environment where parents can confidently entrust their children."
