A fine of 500,000 won imposed
MyRealTrip, an online travel platform operator, has been sanctioned by the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) for violating the obligation to disclose business information under the Electronic Commerce Act. On January 6, the KFTC announced that it had issued a corrective order to MyRealTrip and imposed a fine of 500,000 won.
According to the KFTC, MyRealTrip failed to display the identity information of the cybermall operator-including company name, representative's name, address, phone number, email address, and business registration number-on the initial screen of its app. The company also did not provide a link to the terms and conditions on the initial screen. This constitutes a violation of Article 10 of the Electronic Commerce Act, which requires cybermall operators to disclose such information.
In addition, MyRealTrip did not sufficiently provide consumers with the identity information of partner vendors selling travel products such as accommodations and tours on its website and app. The company did not provide the telecommunications sales report number for domestic partner vendors or the business address for overseas vendors prior to contract, and the app did not offer any function to access this information. This was deemed a violation of Article 20 of the Electronic Commerce Act, which requires online intermediaries to verify and provide the identity information of their transaction partners to consumers.
The KFTC issued a corrective order prohibiting the recurrence of such or similar violations and imposed a fine for the failure to display cybermall operator information. However, MyRealTrip voluntarily corrected the violations by improving its app and website systems to ensure the mandatory display of relevant information by the first half of 2025.
A KFTC official stated, "This measure is expected to help prevent consumer disputes and damages by ensuring that online intermediaries thoroughly verify and provide the identity information of partner vendors."
