This organizational restructuring was implemented to proactively respond to environmental changes, such as the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan, which expands the foundation for cooperation with the central government, and to reinforce the policy and planning functions needed for Busan to emerge as a "marine capital."
BISTEP plans to strategically identify and plan R&D projects in the marine and fisheries sector, and to establish a support system that connects securing national funding to commercialization, thereby supporting the activation of new marine industries.
The newly established Marine Business Planning Team will be dedicated to discovering and planning specialized R&D projects in the marine sector and supporting the acquisition of national funding. In particular, the team aims to strengthen the planning and management functions for new marine industry R&D and demonstration support projects, establishing a full-cycle support system that goes beyond the planning phase to commercialization and expansion.
Additionally, BISTEP will advance its R&D planning and collaboration system based on an industry-academia-research-government cooperation network, and systematically manage the budgets and performance of projects related to new marine industries to enhance project execution. Through these efforts, BISTEP intends to reinforce its role as a bridge connecting central and regional policies and further solidify the foundation for Busan-style marine science and technology policies.
Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, stated, "This organizational restructuring is aimed at elevating the region's strategic business planning capabilities, focusing on the marine and future sectors. Centered around the Marine Business Planning Team, we will systematize the identification and demonstration of marine-specialized R&D projects and expand the foundation for cooperation with the central government, thereby contributing to Busan's advancement as a true marine capital."
