"90.3% of Gyeonggi-do Residents Emphasize Importance of Science, Technology, and AI"...Gyeonggi Agency Releases Awareness Survey Results

90.3% of Gyeonggi-do residents emphasized the importance of science and technology, as well as artificial intelligence (AI) policies, for national competitiveness.


The Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency announced that, according to its "2025 Gyeonggi-do Residents' Science and Technology Awareness Survey" conducted with 8,000 residents, more than 9 out of 10 respondents recognized the importance of science and technology and AI policies for national competitiveness and economic growth.


This survey was conducted to systematically identify the changing policy demands for science and technology among Gyeonggi-do residents in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the era of rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence.


The results showed that 90.3% of respondents believed that the advancement of science and technology is crucial for national competitiveness and economic growth. Regarding the necessity of science and technology policies at the Gyeonggi-do level, 86.6% responded positively.


By age group, those in their 50s and those aged 60 and above prioritized nurturing talent and strengthening education. In contrast, respondents in their 20s and 30s considered expanding investment in research and development to be relatively more important.

Residents' awareness of artificial intelligence was also very high. 86.2% of respondents felt that the pace of AI technological advancement is rapid, and 45.2% reported frequently using AI-based services in their daily lives. In particular, those in their 20s and 30s were found to be the most sensitive to technological changes.


Regarding the necessity of implementing AI policies at the Gyeonggi-do level, 70.8% of respondents answered that it is necessary, indicating high expectations for the role of local governments in responding to the spread of artificial intelligence.


Based on the results of this survey, the Agency plans to systematically implement science and technology and AI policies that meet the needs of residents.


Kim Hyungon, President of the Agency, stated, "Through this survey, we have confirmed the high expectations and demand among residents for science and technology and AI policies. We will strengthen support for research and development, talent cultivation, and the promotion of science and technology policies that residents can experience in their daily lives, thereby enhancing policy execution to ensure these become key drivers of Gyeonggi-do's future competitiveness."
