[CES 2026] Boston Dynamics: "Atlas to Be Supplied to Hyundai Motor and Google Within the Year"

Deployment Volume for This Year Already Determined
"Will Fundamentally Transform the Way Work Is Done"

Boston Dynamics, the robotics subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, announced that it will immediately begin production of its humanoid robot 'Atlas' and deliver units to Hyundai Motor Group and Google within the year.

On January 6 (local time), at 'CES 2026' in Las Vegas, USA, Boston Dynamics unveiled the product version of the new Atlas and made this announcement. The distribution volume for the Atlas robot has already been determined for this year, with deliveries scheduled for the 'Hyundai Robot Meta-Plant Application Center (RMAC)' and 'Google DeepMind'. The company plans to secure additional customers early next year.

Robert Playter, CEO of Boston Dynamics, stated, "The Atlas we are introducing this time is the best robot we have ever built. It will revolutionize the way work is done in industrial settings and marks the first step toward our long-term goal that we've dreamed of since childhood: creating useful robots that enter our homes to make our lives safer, more productive, and more fulfilling."

Atlas is an enterprise humanoid robot designed to perform tasks ranging from material handling to order processing. It can quickly learn new tasks, lift heavy objects, and operate autonomously with minimal supervision. When its battery runs low, it moves itself to a charging station, swaps out the battery, and immediately resumes work.

Boston Dynamics' 'Orbit' software enables easy integration into industrial systems, and once a single robot learns a new task, that task can be instantly replicated across the entire robot system.

Atlas can be controlled in three ways: autonomous mode, remote control, and a tablet-based control interface. It features fully rotational joints with 56 degrees of freedom, a reach of up to 2.3 meters, and the ability to lift up to 50 kilograms. It is highly water-resistant and operates in a wide range of temperatures, from -20°C to 40°C.

Additionally, at this CES, Boston Dynamics entered into a new partnership with Google DeepMind. The two companies plan to collaborate to enhance the cognitive capabilities of robots. Hyundai Mobis will supply actuators for use in Atlas.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest $26 billion in the United States over the next four years, expanding collaboration with companies in robotics, AI, autonomous driving, and other future technologies. Its 30,000-unit robot factory will be developed as a robotics production hub in the United States and is expected to play a central role in the robotics ecosystem.
