[CES 2026] LG Display President Jung Cheoldong: "The Challenge After the Turnaround Is Achieving Even Greater Cost Reduction"

Presenting a Profitability-Driven Strategy
with Automotive and Large-Scale OLED Unveiled at CES

Building on last year's rebound in performance, LG Display is embarking on a business transformation this year, putting profitability-focused management and cost reduction at the forefront. The company’s strategy is to further lower its cost structure after securing technological competitiveness, thereby achieving substantial competitive strength.

On January 5 (local time), Jung Cheoldong, President of LG Display, met with reporters ahead of the CES 2026 pre-booth tour at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) West Hall. He stated, "Last year, we achieved a turnaround, and this year we plan to make it a year of securing profitability based on technology."

President Jung said, "After securing top-tier technology, the next step is cost reduction. Although we are currently improving costs, the core of this year's business plan is to enhance corporate competitiveness through an even higher level of cost reduction." He added, "Naturally, our goal for this year is to deliver even better results than last year."

Regarding investment, he maintained a cautious stance. President Jung explained that the pace of transition from liquid crystal displays to organic light-emitting diodes across information technology devices such as tablets, laptops, and monitors varies by product category. He said, "At present, the market has not yet reached the scale we envision, so we plan to respond using our existing infrastructure." He added, "However, when the market reaches the scale we have anticipated, we will respond through various methods."

In the era of artificial intelligence, President Jung emphasized a strategy of responding in line with the pace of technological advancement in the field of organic light-emitting diodes for robots, including humanoids. He said, "We have been preparing according to customer needs in line with the pace of development in robotics," and added, "We plan to move forward in step with market trends."

Regarding meetings with customers during CES, he noted that interest in automotive displays is the highest. He said, "There is a lot of interest in the automotive sector, and the televisions with organic light-emitting diodes exhibited this time are also drawing significant attention, which will lead to more visits."

Meanwhile, at CES 2026, LG Display focused on showcasing its automotive display technologies. In the mobility exhibition hall at the LVCC West Hall, the company unveiled a variety of display solutions tailored to software-defined vehicles for the AI era.

LG Display highlighted its broad product lineup, ranging from premium automotive organic light-emitting diodes to cost-competitive automotive OLEDs and energy-efficient liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The company presented its comprehensive portfolio covering all areas of automotive displays in one place.

At the exhibition, a 33-inch slidable OLED, which can expand its screen size according to the situation, was unveiled. While driving, it can be used as a navigation screen, and when parked or in autonomous driving mode, it transforms into a large screen for video viewing. The display boasts durability for repeated use and reliability to operate even in extreme cold environments.

Automotive OLEDs that maintain image quality while reducing cost were also showcased. By using thin glass substrates, costs were reduced, and the displays are available in various sizes from 14 inches to 18 inches to accommodate changes in vehicle interior design.

The company also introduced instrument panel displays with cameras hidden in the screen to detect the driver’s condition, as well as displays that allow the driver and passenger to use different content on a single screen. These products were recognized for their technological excellence and received the CES 2026 Innovation Award.

Additionally, a 51-inch ultra-large pillar-to-pillar OLED, implemented with a single panel, was unveiled. It is designed so that the passenger seat screen is not visible from the driver’s seat, thereby enhancing driving safety.

LG Display also introduced next-generation mobility technologies, including transparent micro light-emitting diodes that can be used as vehicle windows and stretchable micro light-emitting diodes that can be freely shaped.

Separately, LG Display held a large OLED exhibition at the Conrad Hotel near the Las Vegas Convention Center. The company presented both premium and mainstream products, focusing on large television and monitor panels, and outlined its strategy for market expansion.
