The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on January 5 that, on the occasion of President Lee Jaemyung's state visit to China, it has laid the groundwork for expanding cooperation with China across the fields of science, technology, and digital technology.
The Ministry of Science and ICT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on "Cooperation in Science and Technology Innovation to Address Global Challenges" with China's Ministry of Science and Technology. The two ministries agreed to pursue joint research and researcher exchanges to address global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.
Additionally, the Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding on "Cooperation in Digital Technology" with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, strengthening cooperation in areas such as digital expansion and digital inclusion to contribute to economic growth and the recovery of livelihoods.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Science and ICT will host the 16th Korea-China Joint Committee on Science and Technology with China's Ministry of Science and Technology in Seoul this year, and will also hold the 5th Korea-China ICT Cooperation Strategic Dialogue with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in Beijing.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Gyeonghun Bae held a luncheon meeting with key figures from the Association of Korean Scientists and Engineers in China, where they shared updates on the current state of science and technology development and talent cultivation policies in China. The Association explained the policy background that enabled China's rapid technological advancement, based on their educational and research experience at major Chinese universities, and offered opinions on the future direction of Korea-China cooperation in science and technology.
