The Credit Union Central Council announced that it held the 2026 New Year's kick-off ceremony on January 5 at the Daejeon Credit Union Central Office, with over 300 executives and employees in attendance.
In his address, Kim Yoonsik, Chairman of the Credit Union Central Council, expressed his gratitude, saying, "Despite the uncertain financial environment, including high interest rates and economic recession, our executives and staff have remained on the front lines and done their utmost for our members and local communities." He went on to emphasize, "The greatest asset of the Credit Union is not our buildings or numbers, but each and every one of you," adding, "The competitiveness of the Credit Union lies not in scale or speed, but in trust, principles, and people-centered values."
The Credit Union Central Council stated that by focusing its efforts on restoring soundness throughout 2025, it made progress in improving the asset quality of the unions, such as reducing the delinquency rate to the high 4% range.
In particular, 'KCU NPL Daebu', established to help restore the unions' soundness, resolved over 4 trillion won in non-performing loans over the past year. The council also added that it provided various forms of support to strengthen the unions' profit base, including equity dividends and linked loans. It further explained that it worked to improve institutional foundations by pushing for the easing of mandatory auditor appointment requirements through amendments to the Credit Union Act.
Additionally, the Credit Union Jeju Training Center, which officially opened in March last year, has established itself as the second training facility, operating humanities and healing-focused programs and attracting more than 7,000 monthly visitors in its first year. The Credit Union Social Contribution Foundation also achieved a milestone by surpassing a cumulative 70 billion won in donations, continuing its differentiated activities such as preserving traditional culture and nurturing talent in Korean traditional music.
Chairman Kim stated, "There will be many challenges in the new year, but if we unite our hearts and minds, the Credit Union will surely find its path and make further progress. There is no need to rush. Just do not stop-let us trust each other and walk together." He added, "Each and every one of you who knows how to harmonize without becoming the same is the future of the Credit Union."
