According to the Office for Government Policy Coordination and the Innovation Party on January 5, Prime Minister Kim Minseok and Cho Guk, leader of the Innovation Party, held a meeting that morning at the Government Seoul Office to discuss the operation of the Social Grand Reform Committee.
The Social Grand Reform Committee was launched on December 15 with participation from civil society, political parties, and the government. The committee, chaired by Park Seokwoon, co-representative of the Korean Progressive Alliance, is composed of up to 50 members. The Innovation Party had not participated until now, citing demands for organizational restructuring and other changes. After the meeting, the Innovation Party announced in a press release that “the Innovation Party will soon recommend three members, and with this, the committee’s formation will finally be completed.”
The Office for Government Policy Coordination also stated in a press release, “Prime Minister Kim emphasized that the agenda discussed by the committee should be pursued through broader political participation and social consensus, and requested the Innovation Party’s active involvement.” The office added, “Cho Guk explained that the Innovation Party has consistently requested that the committee be operated in a manner that actively reflects the intent of the Citizens’ Square Solidarity and the joint declaration of the five political parties, and expressed the party’s intention to participate actively in the committee.”
Additionally, it was noted that “through this meeting, the Prime Minister agreed to continue reporting on the committee’s activities to the President to ensure they are reflected in state affairs, while the Innovation Party agreed to proceed with the previously postponed recommendation of committee members.”
