Chung Euisun: "Improved Korea-China Relations Will Benefit Hyundai Motor... Will Expand Sales in China"

Pre-Forum Meeting of the Korea-China Business Forum on the 5th

Chung Euisun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, expressed his hopes for improved Korea-China relations and demonstrated his commitment to expanding sales in the Chinese market.


On the 5th (local time), Chairman Chung made these remarks during a pre-forum meeting for the Korea-China Business Forum held at Peking University in Beijing, China, on the occasion of President Lee Jaemyung’s state visit.


He stated, "If the Korea-China summit leads to improved relations between the two countries, I expect this will greatly benefit Hyundai Motor. Although sales and production volumes for Hyundai Motor and Kia have significantly declined in China, we plan to increase both production and sales in China with a humble attitude."

The forum was attended by numerous key government officials and business leaders from both countries. Representing the Korean government were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yooncheol, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeonggwan, National Security Advisor Wi Seongrak, and Policy Chief Kim Yongbeom.


Among the business leaders, in addition to Chairman Chung, there were Choi Taewon, Chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Lee Jayong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics; Koo Kwangmo, Chairman of LG Group; as well as Jang Cheolhyuk, CEO of SM Entertainment; and Kim Changhan, CEO of Krafton. In total, 11 Korean business leaders, including those from the culture and content sectors, participated.


On the Chinese side, attendees included Vice Premier for Economic Affairs He Lifeng; Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; Hou Qijun, Chairman of China National Petroleum & Chemical Corporation; Ni Zhen, Chairman of China Energy Engineering Group; Liao Lin, Chairman of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China; Zeng Yuqun, Chairman of CATL; and Liu Yong, Vice Chairman of Tencent.
