Yeongdeok County Accepting Annual Automobile Tax Prepayment Applications in January... Up to 5% Tax Savings Opportunity

Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province will be accepting applications for annual prepayment of automobile tax throughout January 2026 to prevent tax delinquency and reduce the tax burden on residents.

The annual prepayment system allows residents to pay their automobile tax, which is normally due in June and December, in advance by applying in January, March, June, or September. By doing so, they can receive a discount on the tax amount.

In particular, if residents prepay in January, they will receive a 5% deduction on the automobile tax for the period from February to December. For a standard passenger car with an annual automobile tax of approximately 350,000 won, this results in a tax saving of about 16,000 won.

For existing taxpayers who used the annual prepayment system last year, a new bill reflecting the discounted amount will be automatically sent without the need for a separate application. The bill must be paid by the end of January. There is no penalty for not paying the prepayment bill; in such cases, the automobile tax will be charged as usual in June and December.

If a vehicle is sold or deregistered (such as through scrapping) after the annual prepayment has been made, the automobile tax for the period following the transaction will be automatically refunded.

Applications for annual prepayment can be made through the local tax website "WETAX," at the Financial Division of Yeongdeok County Office, at local town or township offices, or by phone. Payment can be completed via WETAX, Internet Giro, the ARS phone system (142211), ATM machines at financial institutions, mobile apps, and other methods.

A Yeongdeok County official stated, "We hope many residents will take advantage of the annual prepayment system during the January application period to enjoy real tax savings."
