Kim Byungjoo Announces Bid for Gyeonggi Governor: "Completing the Success of the Lee Jaemyung Administration in Gyeonggi"

Kim Announces Candidacy at National Assembly Press Center

Kim Byungjoo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Namyangju-eul, announced on January 5 that he intends to run as a candidate for Governor of Gyeonggi Province in the upcoming local elections scheduled for June 3. He stated, "As a comrade of President Lee Jaemyung, I will complete the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration in Gyeonggi Province."

Assemblyman Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Center in Yeouido, Seoul, that morning, declaring, "I will create the 'real Gyeonggi Province' through citizen-sovereign administration."

He emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province is the heart of the Republic of Korea. It is the most populous, has the most jobs, and sees the busiest commutes in the morning. The political, economic, social, and cultural center of Korea is shifting to Gyeonggi Province. When Gyeonggi Province changes, Korea changes."

Assemblyman Kim further stated, "The Republic of Korea now stands at a critical crossroads. We must remove the shadow of prosecutorial dictatorship and rebellion under the Yoon Sukyeol administration and stake everything on the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration." He stressed, "The future of the nation depends on that success, and the place where this must be most clearly proven is Gyeonggi Province."

He continued, "I have been a comrade and political partner who has stood with President Lee at every critical moment, and I will prove this not with words, but with actions and results."

He also criticized Kim Dongyeon, the incumbent Gyeonggi Governor and a leading rival, stating, "During President Lee's tenure as Governor of Gyeonggi Province, the administration set a new standard of 'fairness' and took a leap forward. However, since then, Gyeonggi Province has failed to advance to the next level."

Assemblyman Kim is the second within the ruling party to officially announce his candidacy for Gyeonggi Governor, following former lawmaker Yang Kidae. In addition, Choo Mi-ae, who currently chairs the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee (Hanam-gap), Han Junho (Goyang-eul), and Yeom Taeyoung (Suwon-mu) are also expected to declare their candidacies for the Democratic Party nomination for Governor of Gyeonggi Province.
