On January 5, the Ministry of National Defense announced that it would hold a disciplinary committee for seven individuals involved in the so-called "martial law bus" incident.
Previously, the Ministry’s Constitutional Compliance and Government Innovation Task Force (TF) had requested the Defense Special Investigation Headquarters to investigate those involved in the martial law bus incident. For six of them, a disciplinary committee was already held on December 31 of last year.
The so-called martial law bus refers to a bus that, under the orders of former Martial Law Commander Park Ansu, departed from the Army Headquarters at Gyeryongdae for Seoul at around 3 a.m. on December 4, 2024, immediately following the December 3 Martial Law, carrying several soldiers, but returned after 30 minutes. A total of 34 people were on board.
Among them, former Army Legal Office Chief Kim Sanghwan and former Defense Ministry Investigation Headquarters Acting Chief Kim Seungwan received the severe disciplinary action of demotion.
Meanwhile, the Marine Corps announced that, in connection with the death of Corporal Chae, Colonel Kim, former Chief Secretary to the Commandant of the Marine Corps who was indicted on November 26 of last year, has been placed on leave pending prosecution.
