Gapyeong County Offers 5% Tax Deduction for Annual Automobile Tax Prepayment in the New Year

Prepayment Applications Accepted in January
Save on Taxes by Paying Early

Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province will implement an annual automobile tax prepayment system in 2026. If taxpayers pay their automobile tax in advance in January, they will receive a deduction of approximately 5% (4.58%) off the annual tax amount. Taxpayers can pay the full amount at the beginning of the year and reduce their tax burden.

This prepayment system is operated in accordance with Articles 128(3) and 128(4) of the Local Tax Act. Since 2021, the deduction method for the annual automobile tax prepayment has changed, and this year, the same 5% tax deduction will apply.

For vehicles that have already applied for prepayment, Gapyeong County will send out tax bills collectively in mid-January. Taxpayers who have newly acquired vehicles or have no previous prepayment history must apply separately. New applications can be made by calling or visiting the Taxation Division at Gapyeong County Office, or by directly reporting and paying through Wetax.

There are no penalties for not paying after applying for prepayment. In such cases, the automobile tax will be reimposed in the regular billing periods in June and December. Even without a tax bill, automobile tax can be checked and paid at bank ATMs. Payment is also possible via Wetax, Local Tax Payment Account, Internet Giro, and the automated response system (ARS 142211).

A Gapyeong County official stated, "Annual automobile tax prepayment provides taxpayers with the benefit of tax savings and enables the county to secure local tax revenue early and stably," adding, "We hope everyone will actively report and pay within the deadline."
