Damyang County Raises Livelihood Benefits... Up to 2.07 Million Won per Month for a Family of Four A view of Damyang County Office, Jeollanam-do. Provided by Damyang County, Jeollanam-do

Damyang County in Jeollanam-do will significantly ease the eligibility criteria for the National Basic Livelihood Security Program and expand the scope of livelihood benefit support starting in 2026, thereby strengthening protection for vulnerable groups.

According to Damyang County on January 5, the 2026 standard median income for a household of four has been raised by 6.51% compared to the previous year, reaching 6,494,000 won per month. Accordingly, the eligibility threshold for livelihood benefits will also increase from 1,951,000 won to 2,078,000 won per month, allowing households to receive up to an additional 127,000 won per month in support.

The eligibility criteria will also be improved to address gaps in the welfare system. In particular, to help young people achieve independence, the age limit for earned and business income deductions has been significantly expanded from 29 years old and under to 34 years old and under. The additional deduction amount has also been raised from 400,000 won to 600,000 won, increasing the benefits for working youth.

Previously, some recipients were disqualified due to ownership of vehicles used for livelihood. To address this, the asset assessment criteria for work-related vehicles have been updated so that small vans and trucks valued at less than 5 million won will now be subject to the general property conversion rate.

Applications for basic livelihood benefits can be submitted at the local town or township office or at any time through the online "Bokjiro" website.

A county official stated, "With the increase in median income and improvements to the system, the entry barrier for low-income households to receive basic livelihood benefits will be lowered," adding, "We will continue to establish a robust welfare safety net and provide support that residents can truly feel."
