Oh Hyungyeol, Chairman of Hwasun County Council.
On January 2, the Hwasun County Council in South Jeolla Province delivered its New Year's address, stating, "As this is an important year ahead of the local elections, we will remain steadfast in responsible legislative activities based on law and principles, undeterred by political interests."
The council reflected, "Over the past year, as a representative body serving the will of the residents, we have focused on overseeing all aspects of county administration and safeguarding the lives of our citizens," adding, "We have done our utmost to connect voices from the field to policies, ordinances, and budgets."
The council further emphasized the importance of its role as 2026 approaches.
The council stated, "In a year with local elections, the continuity and stability of administration are more important than ever." It added, "We will thoroughly review key policies and budget execution by the executive branch. However, instead of engaging in unproductive conflict, we will ensure the stable progress of county administration through rational oversight and mature cooperation."
For this year’s legislative direction, the council outlined: ▲ responsible oversight and cooperation across all administrative areas ▲ strengthening legislative activities focused on residents’ livelihoods ▲ reviewing policies and refining systems to appropriately conclude the current term.
Identifying revitalization of the local economy, support for small businesses, and sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas as core tasks, the council declared, "We will focus our legislative capacity on creating changes that residents can truly feel." Additionally, it emphasized that welfare policies for socially vulnerable groups-including seniors, people with disabilities, children, and youth-will be carefully reviewed, and that the council will do its utmost to protect the lives and daily routines of residents in the areas of disaster response and safety.
The council also announced its intention to comprehensively review ordinances and major projects pursued thus far, address any deficiencies, and establish a stable institutional foundation to ensure a smooth start for the next council.
The council concluded, "We will not be fixated on short-term achievements but will fulfill our role from a medium- and long-term perspective for the sustainable development of Hwasun," and added, "In 2026 as well, we will remain a trusted council that stands by the residents and represents their will."
