On January 2, Yecheon County held the "2026 New Year's Kickoff Ceremony" in the main auditorium of the county office, marking the start of the new year together with public officials. The ceremony served as an occasion to share past achievements and to clearly define the direction Yecheon should pursue amid ongoing changes.
In his New Year's address, County Governor Kim Hakdong stated, "Despite consecutive crises such as COVID-19 and heavy rainfall, county residents and public officials have joined forces to turn challenges into opportunities. Today's Yecheon is the result of citizens' understanding and support, as well as the dedication of public officials."
Building on these achievements, Yecheon County plans to focus its 2026 administration on five key areas, aiming to realize "a growing and happy Yecheon."
First, the county will accelerate the creation of a growth-oriented city centered on attracting businesses and creating jobs, as well as promoting tourism and advanced agriculture. By expanding the foundation for high-tech industries around the new city, establishing agro-industrial complexes, and developing tourism resources in connection with the old downtown, the county intends to strengthen the local economic structure and secure sustainable growth engines.
Another major task is to create a happy city that encompasses care, leisure, and health. The county plans to continue implementing public postpartum care centers, strengthen care services, promote community sports, and advance mental health management policies, thereby building a welfare environment that all residents can experience in their daily lives.
To realize a prestigious educational city, the county will establish a customized lifelong learning system for each stage of life, operate native English education and youth learning centers, and provide AI-based learning platforms, all aimed at nurturing local talent and enhancing educational competitiveness.
Creating a city where young people choose to stay is also a key pillar of county administration. The county will expand youth support policies covering housing, jobs, entrepreneurship, and networking, laying the groundwork for young people to settle and become self-reliant in the region.
In addition, by fostering a vibrant city that links sports, festivals, and tourism, the county aims to increase both the resident and visitor populations, making Yecheon a place that attracts former residents and outsiders alike, thereby revitalizing the entire region.
Governor Kim emphasized, "2026 is a crucial period for Yecheon to take another leap forward amid the currents of change. Through steadfast administration and proactive governance, we will continue to build a Yecheon that keeps growing."
