Namwon City in Jeollabuk-do welcomed the New Year of Byeongo (2026) by joining with its citizens to pray for the well-being of the region and to consolidate its strong determination to attract the Second Central Police Academy.
According to Namwon City on January 2, the "New Year's Sunrise and Rice Cake Soup Sharing Event" was held successfully the previous morning at Deogeumsan Palgakjeong and the Square of Love, with over 2,000 citizens, tourists, and public officials in attendance.
Hosted and organized by the Namwon Affection Headquarters and Namwon Rotary Club, the event began with an early morning hike, followed by the reading of a congratulatory message, a prayer ritual, and New Year's well-wishing. Participants watched the first crimson sunrise, made their own wishes, and pledged a new leap forward for Namwon.
The highlight of the event was the "Performance to Wish for the Attraction of the Second Central Police Academy to Namwon." Participants held placards with messages expressing their hope for the academy and chanted slogans, publicly demonstrating both the justification for bringing the police academy to the region for balanced development and the earnest determination of Namwon's citizens.
Afterward, citizens moved to the Square of Love, where they shared rice cake soup and Makgeolli while enjoying a lively performance by the Namwon Municipal Nongak Troupe, celebrating the spirit of the New Year together. The event venue also featured booths for collecting signatures in support of attracting the police academy and for promoting the Hometown Love Donation Program, drawing continued interest from visitors.
A Namwon City official stated, "It is very meaningful to witness the unified voice of our citizens as we enter the Year of Byeongo. In 2026, we will continue to pursue policies that truly empower our citizens and build a dynamic Namwon where traditional culture and future industries coexist."
