Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 2 that it has secured 19.4 billion won in national funding through the 2026 Special Situation Area Development Project and the Border Area Development Support Project. With this funding, Yeoncheon County has once again broken its own record for the largest amount of national funding secured in the field of national balanced development projects, following its achievement in 2025.
This success is the result of receiving an excellent rating in the 2025 Regional Balanced Development Project evaluation conducted by the Local Era Committee, which led to the acquisition of additional financial incentives. Yeoncheon County has maintained an excellent rating for two consecutive years, continuing its achievements in implementing balanced development policies.
This outcome is seen as the fruit of Yeoncheon County’s ongoing cooperation with the central government to identify and promote projects tailored to local conditions, despite various development restrictions such as military regulations.
Based on the secured national funding, Yeoncheon County plans to steadily carry out existing projects to expand living infrastructure and tourism facilities, while also launching new projects in phases. New projects for the 2026 Special Situation Area Development include the Safe Village Road Improvement Project in Jangtan-ri, Cheongsan-myeon, and the Gorangpo Port Tourism Resource Project. Along with 12 ongoing projects, these initiatives are expected to help resolve residents’ inconveniences and improve the local environment.
In addition, the Border Area Development Support Project will include the Pyeonghwaro Street Landscape Improvement Project, which will be linked with two ongoing projects to enhance the landscape of the border area and gradually improve conditions for tourism and visits.
Through this national balanced development project, Yeoncheon County aims to increase the connectivity and effectiveness between projects to deliver tangible results for residents, while continuing to discover new projects that reflect local needs.
An official from Yeoncheon County stated, "Securing this national funding is significant not only as a financial achievement but also because it establishes a foundation for the stable implementation of projects directly related to residents' daily lives. We will continue to work closely with the central government to secure national funding and ensure that the results of balanced growth become visible by thoroughly implementing our projects."
