Providing Tangible Discount Benefits for Citizens
Daejeon City will begin operating the local currency “Daejeon Sarang Card” starting January 5, offering 10% cashback within a monthly purchase limit of 300,000 won.
The city aims to issue a total of 500 billion won this year, with plans to ensure that citizens can experience tangible consumption benefits in their daily lives.
In particular, the city will focus on uninterrupted operation and stable institutional settlement, with the goal of revitalizing the local economy.
Previously, Daejeon City allocated a budget of 42.1 billion won in 2025 and began operating the Daejeon Sarang Card in July, providing a monthly purchase limit of 500,000 won and up to 13% cashback. Through this initiative, the city achieved an issuance volume of approximately 350 billion won, making significant contributions to boosting consumption and helping small business owners recover their sales.
In addition, in September of last year, a related law was revised and passed by the National Assembly, making state support for the issuance of local gift certificates mandatory. This law has been in effect since January of this year.
Park Jehwa, Director of Economic Affairs for Daejeon City, stated, “The Daejeon Sarang Card provides real discount benefits to citizens and serves as an important tool for revitalizing the local economy by increasing sales for small business owners. In 2026, we will do our utmost to support the recovery of the local economy through the uninterrupted operation of the Daejeon Sarang Card.”
