Emphasizing 'Together, Further' Coexistence and Safety as the Top Priority

Seungyeon Kim, Chairman of Hanwha Group, stated in his 2026 New Year's address that the company must secure future-leading technologies in key business areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the defense industry, and act with a sense of responsibility for MASGA (Make American Shipbuilding Great Again).

In his New Year's address on January 2, Chairman Kim evaluated that last year, Hanwha led industrial cooperation between Korea and the United States, symbolized by MASGA, and grew into a 'national representative company' in the defense and shipbuilding sectors. He emphasized that Hanwha must now take on even greater responsibility and a larger role.

He said, "We must become a trusted strategic partner in the global market across all business areas," and added, "For MASGA, I hope we will plan and execute with the determination that Hanwha will take full responsibility, centering on the Philadelphia Shipyard in the United States."

He further encouraged expanding and deepening cooperation between the two countries' shipbuilding industries as the lynchpin and core partner in Korea-U.S. relations, through the construction of warships and nuclear-powered submarines.

Chairman Kim mentioned the intensifying competition in global business and stressed, "Only by possessing fundamental technologies that will determine the future in core business areas such as AI defense can we continue to lead for the next 50 or even 100 years." He urged the company to focus all efforts on securing future-leading technologies across all of Hanwha's business domains, including defense, aerospace, marine, energy, materials, finance, machinery, and services.

Chairman Kim referred to the recent decision to align the performance bonuses of Hanwha Ocean's partner company employees with those of direct employees, stating, "Partner company employees are also part of the Hanwha family, and the local community is the foundation of Hanwha's business." He also emphasized the principle of safety first, saying, "Safety is a core value for a sustainable Hanwha."
