Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has enrolled in the "Citizen Safety Insurance" program to provide insurance payouts to Suwon residents who suffer injuries due to unexpected disasters or safety accidents.
The coverage area for injury medical expenses under the Citizen Safety Insurance extends nationwide. All Suwon residents, including registered foreign nationals and overseas Koreans with domestic residence status, are automatically enrolled in the insurance.
If a resident receives medical treatment in Korea due to an injury, or as a result of a bicycle, electric wheelchair, or personal mobility device (including shared PM) accident, the insurance supports out-of-pocket medical expenses (excluding non-reimbursable items). The maximum payout for injury medical expenses is 700,000 KRW per person (with a 30,000 KRW deductible per claim). If a Suwon resident aged 15 or older dies from an injury accident within Korea, funeral expenses of up to 10 million KRW will be provided.
Since 2019, Suwon City has enrolled every year in the Citizen Safety Insurance, allowing all residents registered in Suwon to receive insurance benefits free of charge. After expanding the coverage nationwide in 2024, even more residents are now benefiting from the insurance.
Insurance claims can be made within three years of the accident date, provided that treatment was received within one year of the incident.
To claim insurance benefits, residents should contact the Suwon City Citizen Safety Insurance Compensation Center (02-2135-9453), prepare the necessary documents, and submit them via fax or email. Coverage is also available in addition to any personal insurance.
