Chungkyu Choi, Mayor of Daedeok District in Daejeon, delivered his 2026 New Year's address, stating, "Over the past year, despite difficult circumstances, Daedeok District achieved significant accomplishments such as receiving an award for its response to population decline and securing 39 billion won in national and municipal funding." He pledged, "Building on the foundation of innovation laid during the 8th popularly elected administration, we will continue to create changes that residents can truly feel, making Daedeok a district where daily life is enjoyable and the future is promising, without wavering."
For the new year, he announced that he would focus on five key areas to ensure a hopeful future: ▲Transforming the Daejeon Marshalling Yard and creating the Yeonchuk Innovation City to realize 'Daedeok, the Heart of Daejeon' ▲Dramatically improving mobility by connecting the tram, metropolitan railway, and Hoedeok Interchange ▲Enhancing residents' quality of life by expanding large-scale parks, cultural and sports facilities, and revitalizing festivals ▲Energizing the local economy through initiatives such as the Daedeok Bank, support for small businesses, improvements to parking environments, and the creation of new industrial complexes ▲Establishing a safe and happy era of longevity by advancing integrated care, expanding AI-based services, and strengthening the welfare safety net.
Mayor Choi added, "The year 2026 will be a turning point that completes Daedeok's leap forward," and asked for the unwavering support and encouragement of all residents.
