5,524 Applicants Compete for 768 Spots
National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) has recorded the highest competition rate ever for its regular admission process.
The Admissions Office of National Pukyong University (Director Park Inho) announced on January 1 that the competition rate for the 2026 regular freshman admissions was 7.19 to 1.
According to the university, which accepted applications for the 2026 regular freshman admissions from December 29 to 31, a total of 5,524 applicants competed for 768 spots. Last year, the competition rate was 5.61 to 1, with 4,481 applicants for 799 spots.
By recruitment group, Group A recorded a competition rate of 5.87 to 1 (2,135 applicants for 364 spots), Group B posted 6.06 to 1 (1,775 applicants for 293 spots), and Group C saw the highest rate at 14.54 to 1 (1,614 applicants for 111 spots).
Among the general admissions, in Group A, the Department of Applied Mathematics had the highest competition rate with 73 applicants for 5 spots (14.6 to 1), followed by the Department of Physics with 71 applicants for 6 spots (11.83 to 1).
In Group B, the Department of Ocean Engineering also had a competition rate of 14.6 to 1 with 73 applicants for 5 spots, while the Department of Biotechnology had 69 applicants for 5 spots, resulting in a competition rate of 13.8 to 1.
In Group C, the Department of Smart Healthcare (Human Bio Convergence Major) had the highest competition rate with 90 applicants for 3 spots (30 to 1), while the Social Sciences Division (Departments of Law, Chinese Studies, Political Science and Diplomacy) had 110 applicants for 5 spots, resulting in a competition rate of 22 to 1.
The practical exam schedule for arts and physical education majors in the regular admissions at National Pukyong University is set for January 12 (Industrial Design Major, Marine Sports Major) and January 21 (Visual Design Major), and the list of successful candidates will be announced on the university's website on January 30.
