Achieved in Just Five Weeks After Release
The animated film "Zootopia 2" has surpassed "Frozen 2" to become the highest-grossing animated feature in the history of Disney Animation Studios.
According to Reuters and other outlets on December 31 (local time), "Zootopia 2," which was released on November 26 last year, earned $1.46 billion (approximately 2.11 trillion won) at the global box office within just five weeks of its release.
This breaks the previous record set by "Frozen 2" in 2019, which grossed $1.45 billion.
"Zootopia 2" generated $333 million in the United States and $1.13 billion in other regions.
Notably, in China alone, the film earned $560 million, accounting for about 40% of its global revenue. Immediately after its release, "Zootopia 2" made up 95% of all movie tickets sold in Chinese theaters over the opening weekend.
This year, besides "Zootopia 2," only two other films have surpassed $1 billion in worldwide box office revenue: Disney's live-action remake of "Lilo & Stitch" ($1.03 billion) and the Chinese animated film "Nezha 2" ($2.2 billion).
