A patient who was in critical condition due to severe bleeding from a fall accident survived thanks to the swift helicopter transport by the Coast Guard.

According to the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters on December 31, the West Sea Coast Guard received a report around 2 p.m. that a man in his 60s, identified as worker A, had fallen from a 2-meter-high roof while working at a house demolition site on Heuksando Island, Sinan-gun, South Jeolla Province, and suffered a head injury.

At the time, A was reported to be in a reduced state of consciousness due to blood loss, and urgent emergency treatment at the hospital was required.

The West Sea Coast Guard immediately ordered an emergency dispatch from the Mokpo Aviation Unit and sent them to Heuksando Island.

The straight-line distance from Mokpo to Heuksando Island is about 90 kilometers, and although it usually takes more than three hours by high-speed ferry, the Mokpo Aviation Unit arrived in just over 30 minutes due to the emergency dispatch.

Coast Guard paramedics on board the helicopter continuously monitored the patient's condition, checking his electrocardiogram and vital signs. They secured the airway of the patient, who had vomited blood, removed foreign substances from his mouth, and administered oxygen. After arriving at the special forces helicopter pad at the West Sea Coast Guard Headquarters, the patient was handed over to the waiting 119 paramedics.

Meanwhile, A, who was transported to the hospital, is reported to be out of life-threatening danger.
