Daedong Hospital’s Park Sujeong, Medical Social Worker, Receives Busan Mayor’s Commendation for Cross-Border Medical Care

Recognized for Contributions to Medical Support for Foreign Workers

Daedong Hospital (Director: Lee Gwangjae) announced on December 30 that Park Sujeong, a medical social worker from the hospital’s Medical Social Work Team, was selected as a '2025 Healthcare Policy (Medical Support Project for Foreign Workers) Meritorious Contributor' and received a commendation from the Busan Mayor.

This commendation was awarded in recognition of her active participation in medical support projects for marginalized groups such as foreign workers, thereby helping to bridge gaps in healthcare access, contributing to the advancement of local healthcare policies, and practicing humanitarian values.

The Medical Social Work Team at Daedong Hospital has been at the forefront of providing appropriate medical services to foreign workers who are not covered by health insurance, leading efforts to address healthcare blind spots.

Through agreements with centers related to migrants, the team has actively promoted the project and identified eligible recipients, enabling foreign workers who were hesitant to visit hospitals due to the burden of medical expenses to receive necessary treatment in a timely manner.

Additionally, to ensure that foreign workers can receive care without language barriers during their hospital visits, the hospital has supported in-house interpreter services and operated dedicated service desks for foreigners, minimizing potential inconveniences throughout the treatment process and creating a patient-centered medical support environment.

Park Sujeong, medical social worker at Daedong Hospital, stated, "There are many cases in which foreigners face significant barriers to receiving appropriate treatment in Korea due to lack of health insurance coverage, financial burdens, insufficient information, and linguistic or cultural obstacles." She added, "Helping medically underserved groups, including foreigners, receive timely and necessary treatment is an important social responsibility of medical institutions and a mission for social workers."

She further expressed her commitment, saying, "I will continue to do my best to support medical assistance activities for neighbors who are in healthcare blind spots."
