Gyeonggi Province Issues "Cold Wave Emergency Level 1" at 2 p.m. on the 31st

Gyeonggi Province will enter "Emergency Level 1" in response to the cold wave advisory starting at 2 p.m. on December 31.


Previously, the Korea Meteorological Administration announced that a cold wave advisory would be issued for all 31 cities and counties in the province from 9 p.m. on the same day. It also forecast that on the morning of January 1, 2026, the minimum temperature across the entire province would drop below minus 10 degrees Celsius. In particular, the northern part of Gyeonggi is expected to experience severe cold, with temperatures dropping below minus 15 degrees Celsius.

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province will intensively manage the cold wave response situation in cooperation with cities and counties through joint operations involving 13 departments across 6 teams, including welfare, waterworks, and disaster management. During the Emergency Level 1 period, the province will check daily preventive activity records and focus on protecting vulnerable groups and ensuring the safety of facilities.


On December 31, Kim Sungjoong, the First Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gyeonggi Province, sent an official letter to each city and county, requesting: ▲establishment of thorough cold wave response measures, including on-site inspections led by deputy heads of local governments; ▲strengthened protection activities for vulnerable groups by mobilizing all available personnel such as welfare support workers, local voluntary disaster prevention teams, and community leaders; ▲advance preparations to prevent crop damage from cold weather and livestock losses; and ▲active promotion of cold wave safety guidelines through all available channels, including emergency disaster text messages and village broadcasts.
