The Ministry of National Defense announced that it will hold a disciplinary committee on December 31 for six individuals involved in boarding the "martial law bus" during the December 3 Martial Law Emergency.
Ministry spokesperson Jeong Bitna made this statement during a regular briefing on the same day. Previously, the Ministry's Constitutional Respect and Government Innovation Task Force had requested the Defense Special Investigation Headquarters to investigate 10 individuals related to the incident, and it appears that the disciplinary committee is targeting some of them. When asked about the disciplinary procedures for the remaining individuals, spokesperson Jeong said, "The process is being carried out sequentially, and we will announce it when the time comes."
In the early morning of December 4 last year, immediately after the National Assembly voted to lift martial law, a total of 34 people boarded the martial law bus heading to the National Assembly under the orders of former Martial Law Commander Park Ansoo. Among them, former Army Legal Office Director Kim Sanghwan and former Acting Director of the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters Kim Seungwan received disciplinary action in the form of demotion. Lee Jaesik, former Joint Chiefs of Staff Combat Readiness Inspection Officer, who was appointed as the Planning and Coordination Director at the Martial Law Command and carried out duties in the Joint Chiefs of Staff Command and Control Center during martial law, was dismissed.
