At around 12:35 a.m. on December 31, a fire broke out at a pigsty in a pig farm located in Yaro-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province.
The fire resulted in the death of 450 piglets and completely destroyed one pigsty building, causing property damage estimated at approximately 180 million won, according to the fire department.
All four foreign nationals who were present at the scene evacuated safely, and there were no human casualties.
The owner of the pigsty, who was resting at his home in Daegu, detected an abnormal signal through the "Chuksaji Keeper," a real-time livestock facility safety management system, and reported it to emergency services (119).
The fire authorities mobilized 71 personnel, including 63 firefighters, and 21 pieces of equipment, bringing the main blaze under control by 2:21 a.m. and fully extinguishing the fire by 3:31 a.m.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire and other related details.
