Sapporo Chuo Police Arrests Korean Tourist for Property Damage
Shattered Entrance Door After Refusing to Pay When Asked by Staff
A Korean tourist in his 50s was arrested after causing a disturbance and breaking a glass door at a bar in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, refusing to pay for his food.
According to Hokkaido regional media outlet STV on December 31, the Sapporo Chuo Police Station arrested a 51-year-old Korean man, identified as Mr. A, on December 28 on charges of property damage.
Mr. A is accused of causing a commotion at a bar in Chuo Ward, Sapporo, around 11:30 p.m. that day and breaking the glass of the entrance door by running into it.
According to police, Mr. A was asked to pay a food bill of 3,500 yen (approximately 32,000 won) at the bar but refused, shouting "No Money." He also got into an altercation with a staff member.
Afterward, as the staff member called out to Mr. A, who was trying to leave, Mr. A brushed him off and rammed into the entrance door, shattering the glass. Police responded to the report and arrested Mr. A at the scene. During the investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated, "I will speak to my lawyer."
