'Jangwi District 10' Excluding Sarang Jeil Church: Seongbuk-gu Approves Groundbreaking for 1,931 Units

Full-Scale Construction Begins After 17 Years

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seungro) announced on December 31 that the groundbreaking notification for the Jangwi District 10 redevelopment project has been officially processed. Construction will now begin in earnest, 17 years after the area was designated as a maintenance zone in 2008.

This project, constructed by Daewoo Engineering & Construction, will create a large-scale complex with a total of 1,931 residential units on an area of approximately 91,362 square meters. Among these, 341 public housing units will be mixed with the for-sale housing units.

Public infrastructure such as a cultural park of about 5,900 square meters, a library, and a community center will be established, and the main road, Dolgoji-ro, will be expanded. Improvements in transportation and cultural infrastructure are anticipated.

Jangwi District 10 received approval for its management and disposal plan in 2017, but the project was delayed for an extended period due to conflicts with Sarang Jeil Church (led by Pastor Jun Kwanghoon) located within the project site. Subsequently, the redevelopment zone was adjusted to exclude the church property, and the project was relaunched.

This groundbreaking is expected to add momentum to the entire Jangwi New Town project. An official from Seongbuk-gu stated, "We will provide full administrative support to ensure the successful completion of the redevelopment project through swift procedures."
