On December 30, Icheon City announced that it would sign a memorandum of understanding with Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation (GH) and Korea East-West Power to establish the 'Daewol 2 RE100 Industrial Complex.'
The Daewol 2 Industrial Complex is being developed on a 45,291-square-meter site at 499-2 Gusi-ri, Daewol-myeon, Icheon. The target for completion of construction is October next year.
Through inter-agency cooperation, the city plans to establish an RE100 industrial complex model based on renewable energy centered around the Daewol 2 Industrial Complex, and to redefine its strategy for creating an RE100 industrial complex cluster in the future.
Previously, this industrial complex was selected as the 'Gyeonggi-do Carbon Neutral Demonstration Industrial Complex' in 2022.
Icheon City will be responsible for related permits and administrative support, as well as formulating support measures to promote renewable energy. GH will be in charge of planning the renewable energy industrial complex cluster and prioritizing the introduction of solar power models. Korea East-West Power will establish a customized power generation business model centered on renewable energy, devise sustainable support measures, and operate renewable energy supply facilities.
A city official stated, "This agreement will serve as a practical opportunity to support companies in implementing RE100 by promoting industrial complex development and energy transition simultaneously," adding, "We will strive to become a sustainable hub for advanced industries by fostering an eco-friendly industrial ecosystem."
