Daegu Transportation Corporation has decided to reemploy two public officials who are set to retire at the end of 2025 as fixed-term employees.
This decision follows the corporation's introduction in 2024 of a new policy allowing public officials from multi-child families to continue working for an additional one to two years after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60. The reemployment period is one year for those with two children and two years for those with three or more children, with no restrictions on the age of the children.

The employees being reemployed this time are public officials specializing in mid-level maintenance of electric trains. The decision was made after evaluating their work performance, job suitability, and disciplinary records. Starting January 1 of next year, they will be preferentially assigned to their desired departments (the same department and the same work) to continue their duties.
In 2024, Daegu Metropolitan City became the first metropolitan local government in the country to implement such a reemployment policy. This initiative was designed to address the increasing age of marriage and childbirth, alleviate the continued burden of child-rearing and education costs after retirement, provide compensation for child-rearing efforts, and tackle social issues arising from a declining labor force.
Kim Ki-hyuk, President of Daegu Transportation Corporation, stated, "The reemployment system for multi-child public officials addresses the issue of extending the retirement age and reflects our policy goal of supporting multi-child families. Last year, although the system was established, reemployment could not be implemented due to personal circumstances of the eligible candidates, which was regrettable. This year, we are able to continue employing two people, making the system practically meaningful. We will continue to proactively respond to the population crisis in this era of low birth rates and an aging society."
