Uljin County Rings Out the Old Year and Welcomes the New with Light... Bell-Ringing and Sunrise Events to Be Held

Welcoming 2026 with Hope and Excitement

As the year draws to a close, the bell of Uljin rings out, and the first light of the New Year rises above the sea.

On December 31, Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province will host the '2025 New Year's Eve Bell-Ringing Ceremony' and the '2026 New Year's Sunrise Event' to mark the end of the year and the beginning of the new one.

This year's bell-ringing ceremony, organized by the Uljin branch of the Korea Entertainment Artists Association, will take place on December 31 and feature performances, the delivery of New Year's messages, and a colorful fireworks display, offering a feast for the eyes and ears. Warm snacks will also be provided to share goodwill among attendees.

On January 1, the New Year's sunrise event, where Uljin residents and visitors can gather to make wishes for the coming year, will be held at Mangyangjeong Beach in Geunnam-myeon starting at 6:00 a.m.

This event, hosted by the Geunnam-myeon Development Council, will begin with a New Year's performance and include interactive programs such as writing wish notes and burning wish bonfires to share hopes for the year ahead. In addition, traditional rice cake soup and free hot tea will be served at the venue, providing warmth to residents and tourists participating in the early morning festivities.

Furthermore, nine other sunrise spots across various towns and villages in Uljin-including Hyeonnae Port, Wolseongjeong in Pyeonghae, the summit of Bakdaljae in Geumgangsong-myeon, and Deungisan Park in Hupo-will host New Year's rituals, traditional folk performances, and communal rice cake soup, creating opportunities for unity and celebration.

Through the bell-ringing ceremony and sunrise event, the county aims to provide a meaningful occasion for residents and visitors to come together, reflect on the past year, and make resolutions for a new beginning.

An official from Uljin County stated, "We hope this will be an opportunity for both residents and visitors to share hope and wishes for the New Year," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure the event is conducted safely and in an orderly manner."
