212 Votes in Favor Out of 251 Total Votes
The National Assembly approved the appointment motion for Kim Hocheol, the nominee for Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, on December 30, 2025.
On this day, the ruling and opposition parties held a plenary session of the National Assembly and passed the appointment motion for Kim. Out of a total of 251 votes, there were 212 in favor, 34 against, and 5 abstentions.
The Special Committee on Personnel Hearings of the National Assembly held a confirmation hearing for Kim on the previous day. Opposition lawmakers scrutinized Kim's experience as president of Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) and his views on North Korea, but it was reportedly agreed that there were no issues with his ability to perform the duties of the position. As a result, the special committee adopted a report reflecting both qualified and unqualified opinions by bipartisan agreement.
Kim is a human rights lawyer who previously served as president of Minbyun. From 2021 to 2024, he also served as chairman of the National Police Commission, an organization under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
