Temporary Detour Road Connecting Geumam Tunnel to Gajang Industrial-dong Road
to Open in the First Half of Next Year

Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced on December 30 that vehicle traffic will resume on the section of the Western Bypass Road from Gajang Intersection to Chopyeong Intersection (Balan-ro, toward Pyeongtaek) starting at 10 a.m. on the 31st.

The city explained that it conducted an emergency safety inspection to ensure the safety of road facilities, and decided to reopen the road after completing repairs on sections that required maintenance.

This section had been completely closed to traffic since the retaining wall collapse at Gajang Intersection on the Western Bypass Road in July. As a result, severe traffic congestion occurred around nearby intersections, causing inconvenience to residents.

The city expects that the reopening will partially alleviate congestion at major intersections and improve the flow of vehicles in the Sumogwon-ro area, which is the main road in Segyo 2 District.

Meanwhile, the Central Facility Accident Investigation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has raised the need for further investigation into the collapse on the Western Bypass Road and has extended the investigation period until February 20 next year.

Anticipating that the restoration work will be prolonged, the city plans to open a temporary detour road with one lane in each direction connecting the area in front of Geumam Tunnel to Gajang Industrial-dong Road on the Western Bypass Road during the first half of next year as a supplementary measure.
