First Overseas Training for 3,000-Ton Indigenous Submarine: 7,000 km Voyage Completed Without Issues

The ROKS Anmu (KSS-III, 3,000-ton class), the first Dosan Ahn Changho-class submarine designed and built with domestic defense technology to participate in overseas training, has successfully completed its mission and returned to Korea.

The Navy announced that on the morning of December 30, a welcoming ceremony for the return of the Anmu was held at Jinhae Naval Base in South Gyeongsang Province, presided over by Rear Admiral Kim Taehun, Acting Commander of the Naval Submarine Force Command, following the completion of the ROK-US joint anti-submarine exercise "2025 Silent Shark."

The Anmu participated in overseas training for the first time as a Dosan Ahn Changho-class submarine. It departed from Jinhae Naval Base in early November, arrived in Guam on November 17, and then conducted submarine tracking and attack drills, free maneuver warfare, and anti-submarine warfare with aircraft in the waters near Guam for over a month. Through these activities, the submarine enhanced its ability to conduct joint operations with the US Navy and strengthened interoperability.

Notably, the Anmu completed a long-distance round-trip voyage of over 7,000 kilometers between Jinhae and Guam, as well as various missions in tropical and other underwater environments, without a single equipment failure. This demonstrated the excellence of submarines built with domestic defense technology.

Colonel An Geonyoung, captain of the Anmu, stated, "Through participation in this long-distance overseas training, we were able to confirm the outstanding operational performance and crew convenience of submarines built with our defense technology. We will continue to take pride in operating the world's best-performing diesel submarine and dedicate ourselves to fulfilling our mission to protect Korea's maritime security."
