On December 30, the city of Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, announced that it will create 177 jobs next year through the "Jobs for People with Disabilities" program, aimed at expanding social participation and income security for people with disabilities.
The organizations participating in next year's disability employment project include Siheung City Hall, Siheung Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled, Gyeonggi Association for the Physically Disabled Siheung Branch, and Gyeonggi Parents' Solidarity for the Disabled Siheung Branch.
Through this project, these organizations plan to recruit 177 people with disabilities over the course of next year. The number of positions per institution is as follows: Siheung City Hall will offer 49 general jobs; Siheung Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled will provide 50 welfare jobs and 5 customized jobs for people with severe disabilities focusing on rights; Gyeonggi Association for the Physically Disabled Siheung Branch will offer 11 general jobs and 40 welfare jobs; Gyeonggi Parents' Solidarity for the Disabled Siheung Branch will provide 5 assistant care worker jobs for people with developmental disabilities, 12 welfare jobs, and 5 customized jobs for people with severe disabilities focusing on rights.
Each implementing organization will complete the selection of successful candidates by the 31st through document screening and interviews. The selected candidates will be assigned to their respective organizations for one year starting January 1 next year, where they will perform job duties according to the type of disability employment project.
Participants in "general jobs" will be responsible for administrative assistance or subcontract processing work at community administrative welfare centers, libraries, or sheltered workshops for people with disabilities. Participants in "welfare jobs" will perform duties tailored to their disability type and personal characteristics at post offices, cafes, daycare centers, welfare centers, or will be responsible for guiding parking in designated spaces for people with disabilities at public parking lots.
Participants in "assistant care worker jobs for people with developmental disabilities" will assist care workers at nursing homes, long-term care hospitals, or senior day care centers. Participants in "customized jobs for people with severe disabilities focusing on rights" will be engaged in disability awareness improvement, advocacy, and cultural and artistic activities.
Shim Yunsik, Director of Welfare at Siheung City, said, "We will continue to expand job programs to support the social participation and independence of people with disabilities, and we will do our utmost to support participants so they can perform their duties smoothly and achieve independence."
